I wrote briefly about my weight loss experience more than a year ago, but have wanted to do something more in depth for a while. I have a friend who is trying to lose some weight, and occasionally have people ask me how I did it when they find out that I used to be pretty fat. So, as a community service to those readers of mine who are looking to drop a few, I'm going to start a new regular feature here on weight loss.
In many ways this is going to be the weight loss journal I never wrote. It's probably better that I'm doing this after the fact, because it allows me to go back and see what worked and what didn't. I now also have a better idea of what I should have done that I didn't originally.
But why should you listen to me? What are my credentials? Well, they're really quite simple. I used to weigh 260 lbs, and now weigh about 175. You can do the math. I lost this weight over approximately two years, and have maintained that weight loss for three years and going strong. I also went from a guy who couldn't run a half mile without fear of collapsing, to someone who regularly does triathlons, and does all sorts of other outdoor activities.
You should also know that I'm very harsh on "fad diets". I won't be blogging about Atkins, or South Beach, or any other Hollywood diets. They don't work. Instead I'm hoping to provide tips and tricks that I used in the two years of weight loss using the old "eat less and exercise more" plan, and also some things that I've noticed in the three years since.
Lastly, I'd like to include any of you who are trying to lose weight and not ever find it again. Do you have questions on losing weight? Topic suggestions you'd like to see me blog about? Stories you'd like to share? Please... email them to me. Finally, all these posts will be included in a new category called "Losing Weight" to make them easy to find.
