What Is With Schools These Days?

A while ago I blogged about an idiotic school administrator who thought it was appropriate to strip search a girl who he thought was carrying Ibuprofin.  Now there is this story about a teacher who decided that strip searching many 7th graders in the hunt for $42 was a good idea.  Is there no common sense or reasonableness left?

Here's the scoop on this horrific practice, Nick.

I have a friend, I won't say where (in Wiscconsin) whose 4-year-old kindergartner was stripped because a teacher saw a bruise on his arm. Oh yes, they did. And they reported it to the police. And THEN they told the parent they recorded it via phone in a polite kind of way without letting them know about the strip search, AND PICTURES, OR the police involvement. She was IRATE! After a phone call to Liberty Counsel, their lawyers let her know that the public school system, INDEED, has the authority to do such an invasive and demoralizing act without parental permission. In fact, they went so far as to say that once you place your child in the public school system, your parental "rights" are then transferred to the school for the day. I am guessing this parochial schoolteacher was following suit with this thought.

It sickens me.

While I am on a roll...

There really is something wrong, like you said, about a MALE school administrator doing the above strip search. That would be my first eyebrow raiser.

Common sense and reasonableness were forced out by zero-tolerance policies.

You know, Nick, since Libby Burmaster isn't seeking another term, maybe YOU could be Wisconsin's next State Superintendent of Public Instruction!

I'd move back to Wisconsin for ten days to vote for you.
