I Don't Know What To Say

Remember when someone registered vpilf.com after John McCain picked Sarah Palin?  Predictably, those who like McCain thought it was funny, and those don't like McCain generally regarded it as sexist.  Well, apparently now the McCain Campaign not only bought the domain voteforthemilf.com, but are forwarding it to the johnmccain.com campaign website.  Once again, some are calling it sexism on the part of the McCain campaign.

My take is that this is part of the reality of the world wide web. Sadly, if the McCain campaign didn't buy up this domain, then someone would have and more than likely the content would have not been favorable to the vice presidential candidate.  Although... the reality is that there are probably dozens, if not hundreds, of other possible permutations of domain names that they didn't think of, that someone else will.  In the end, it's probably a losing battle, and because of that harsh reality, its sometimes better not to try.

The only mistake I think they really made is forwarding the domain to their campaign website.  That seems like a tacit endordsement of the concept being communicated in the original domain name, which is that you should vote for them because Sarah Palin is a f*ckable mom.  That's a pretty offensive concept no matter who you are, or who you want to vote for.  If I were advising the McCain campaign, I would have told them to simply buy the domain, and have it return either blank content, or let it foward to a parking page.
