<< Schweitzer's Laws of Washington Drinking Right Has a New Home on the Web >>
Just to Be Perfectly Clear

I don't just want the major financial firms who dealt in bad mortgage backed securities to pay the penalty for their risk taking.  I want home owners to do the same.  People who took on risky sub prime mortgages deserve to be punished just as much.  A lot of people are selling this snake oil that they were somehow pawns on the chess board of the Wall Street elite.  Bullshit.  The lending terms were right there in front of them if they cared to read it.  If they lose their home and/or go bankrupt then so be it... hopefully that will be a lesson learned.  I have no simpathy for them.

I'm with you, Nick. My parents lost their house about eight years ago after a bankruptcy, because they got themselves in too deep. Now, mind you, I love my parents, and I'm grateful for everything they did for me, but the truth of the matter is they just didn't have the money to keep the house, and my dad even admitted that they should have cut their losses and sold the house long before the bank kicked us out. Lesson learned? I hope so. Tough lessons, but still needed.

A lot of us people that actually live in normal homes and only buy what we can afford to pay for have been walking around for the last 10 years or so saying, "Wow, how can all these people afford these mini castles?" Well we have our answer, They Can't Afford Them! I also do not want to pay to bail them out. Sooner or later the lessons need to be learned and people need to learn to live within their means. Maybe the next generation will learn the concept of delayed gratification.
