First They Warn, Then They Ticket

Remember when this story was published in the Journal about using a radar gun on a sledding hill?  It was all just informative right?  Cops would never actually hand out a ticket for sledding too fast... right?  Wrong:

Skiers and snowboarders who love the unrestricted thrill of hurtling down alpine pistes on a sunny winter’s day are about to be stopped in their tracks.

Switzerland is introducing speed cameras on the slopes to try to reduce the increasing number of accidents. The first such nationwide controls will treat skiers like cars on the motorway. Speeders will be caught with hand-held radar devices carried by hidden personnel.

For your own safety of course.  Will the nannies ever stop finding things to protect us from?

Who is "they" again? I don't know about Switzerland, but in the US, isn't "they" supposed to be "us"?

Supposed to be... yes. But seeing as how more and more of my rights are democratically taken from me, I no longer believe that to be true. Democracy is NOT life by committee, which is what it has turned into. Just because the majority of people may think going fast down a ski hill is dangerous, shouldn't stop me from being able to do it. It's the tyranny of the majority.

Remember the old saying, "If it moves, regulate it. If it keeps moving, tax it. If it stops moving, subsidize it."

Have you considered that you may be more anarchist than libertarian?

Have you considered that you may be more socialist than liberal? And actually, I've written about anarchism vs. libertarianism before.

I could never be a socialist--too many meetings.
