Government Ruins Everything!

What is wrong with you people?!

The once ubiquitous cupcake, iced to perfection and colorfully sprinkled, may be slowly fading from the school landscape.

As elementary classrooms prepare for holiday parties this week, some schools plan to ban the treat in the steady push to improve nutrition with in schools statewide.

What began with strict dietary guidelines for cafeteria food and a soda pop-ban in grade school vending machines increasingly extends to the last beachhead for sugar-laden food in schools: classroom parties and holiday treats.
...
School districts nationwide fashioned wellness policies last year after a federal law required schools to develop a kindergarten-to-high school plan for nutrition and physical education.  Confronted with rising rates of child obesity and a surge of youth allergies, many local schools seized the moment to take a firm stand against junk food served anywhere and any time in the building -- including fare offered by parents for classroom parties, bake sales and club meetings.

You idiots are sucking all of the fun out of childhood!  You are absolutely destroying it.  And what is the impetus for all of this?  That's right... federal law.  Heaven forbid a school stop getting money for its cafeteria milk if they don't also stop parents from bringing in cupcakes for their child's birthday.  I feel sorry for the youth of today... I don't think they know what being a kid actually is supposed to be like anymore.

Keep government out of the business of raising our children.  It's not their job.  This isn't a Brave New World.  Via On Deadline.

Especially ironice when you consider the same people who outlaw cupcakes are the same ones who fly into fits of hysterics if kids try to play on the playground - you know, games like Tag, Touch Football, etc.

Kids today can't be kids. But I'll be damned if they tell *me* what I can give my child to eat unless they start buying our groceries.

At Appleton's Octoberfest the Outagamie County Dems were selling
deep fried snickers bars or some-such.

I was so tempted to go over and chew them out for straining
our health care system. My buddies at the Outagamie County
Republican Party had the very same thoughts.
