A Simple Translation

For those of you who don't read Folkbum's Rambles and Rants very often, I thought I'd provide a simple summary of his latest post on health care, but translated into language the average reader will understand.

  1. You are an idiot, who is incapable of caring for yourself.
  2. I'm smarter than you are.
  3. I care more about you and your family than you do.
  4. I know how to spend your money better than you do.
  5. Give me all the money I ask for, or I'll throw you in jail.
  6. It's for your own good.
  7. Now shut up and do what I tell you.

I think that captured all the primary elements.  Did I miss anything?

The "market" sounds great, right up until the paramedics try to get an answer out of your unconscious body about where to take you. Or until you look at the data.

Even if that were true (Note: It isn't) there's no reason that our health care couldn't be better than it is. There are a lot of ways we could improve it. Removing insurance mandates to help change the way it's paid for comes to mind. As does allowing people to sell their kidneys.
