The Heat and The Smells and The Sounds

It's hot... hot... here in Sunny California.  And yet, I'm not doing too bad.  My sisters are bitching and whining because of the 90+ degree heat, and they look at me and say, "aren't you miserable?"  Ummm no.  This isn't real heat folks.  It's missing one key ingredient to be really hot... it's called humidity.  The idea of a "dry heat" may seem cliche, but that's what is going on here.  Of course I can take picture after picture of it out here (and I already have), but one thing you can't bottle up are the sounds and smells.  Even driving in from the airport late on Friday night, I was immediately hit with Eucalyptus, which was so strong after a day of 90+ degree heat in the canyons.  It's like auromatherapy hitting your nose.

And of course, there is no way to go to the ocean and not immediately get hit with the sounds and the smells.  Not just the salty ocean breeze, but the smell of seaweed.  And the sound, and the energy of the waves hitting the shore.  One area was filled with cobbles to stop erosion.  After every crash of the waves, as the water recedes, it moves the rocks a little, and it sounds like thunder rumbling in the distance.  You can only just stand there and try to soak it all in.  But since you can't enjoy any of that, you'll have to settle for a few shots off Flickr.  As always, you can click on any for a larger version.
