Why Don't They Like Wal-Mart?

Marquette Warrior has a funny video up from a guy who asks really stupid college students why Wal-Mart is Evvvillll.  The funny part about that particular video is that he finds out that many of those very same college students who think Wal-Mart is awful, actually shop there... because they have to apparently.  But that really doesn't answer the real question.  Why do so many liberals, who don't shop at Wal-Mart, hate Wal-Mart so much?

I think one reason is because they hate poor people.  And by "they", I mean liberals, not Wal-Mart.  Wal-Mart loves the poor.  Rich liberals hate them.  Many of the most ardent opponents to Wal-Mart are rather affluent people, and also liberal.  They're filled with all sorts of liberal guilt, but that doesn't mean they like those they supposedly help.  I mean seriously, when was the last time you were in Wal-Mart?  There are poor people everywhere!  They're not dressed in the latest fashions.  Some of them are overweight.  They're buying cheap stuff that you wouldn't touch with a 10 foot pole.  Ugh!

And in case you think I'm out of my mind here, I've actually had conversations with liberals who believe that.  They hate going to Wal-Mart because they see some obese person in a motorized cart rolling down the aisles buying chips and ice cream, and it disgusts them.  But as is the case with many differences between liberals and myself, while I find that image to be unpleasant and sad, I wouldn't outlaw the store to keep it from happening.  I personally don't shop at Wal-Mart very often because I prefer to buy higher quality goods, but that doesn't mean I don't think it should exist.

In some ways I think it's similar to the attitude that many rich white people have, where they don't have a problem with diversity, as long as you don't try to marry my daughter.  They don't mind poor people, as long as they don't have to see them.  But here is a store, where they might want to shop, where they have to see these people everywhere.  Why do you think so many people fight tooth and nail when a Wal-Mart wants to build in their neighborhood?  Dear God, it will be like a magnet for poor people.  I'll drive by that store, and I'll see them everywhere!  Oh the humanity!

Wal-Mart provides jobs for many people who might not be able to get one.  Wal-Mart also sells cheap stuff that people wouldn't normally be able to afford.  Wal-Mart is full of poor people, because it helps poor people, and that's a good thing.

It's also a place where poor people can get a lot of things that you normally can't get in poor neighborhoods very easily. Like produce and diapers.

Wal-Mart is evil and you shouldn't give them your business. Because, the truth is--they hate poor people and they have taken advantage of their situation and as reward for this behavior--gotten rich off them.
Their business practices are abhorant and the way they treat their employees is worse. Did you know that because of their low wages, out of reach medical insurance premiums and the steps they have taken to keep unions out cost the tax payers of this country trillions of dollars? Florida has over 12,000 Walmart employees on public assistance, Texas over 10,000. Every state with a Walmart has these staggering numbers of employees who utilize some kind of public assistance and are urged to by their employer.
If you get a chance, check out the new documentary that has been playing in the last couple weeks on Walmart.
The reason people fight to keep them out of their neighborhoods is due to their business practices and their abuses within the communities that they have entered. The word is spreading....Do the research.

Talk about denying access.

Or shaming people out of it.

Good post
