It seems to be regarded as almost a truism among some liberals debating socialized medicine Healthy Wisconsin, that European countries with government run health care do it cheaper and better than we do it right now... except of course when it comes to actual survival of sick people:
Cancer survival rates in Britain are among the lowest in Europe, according to the most comprehensive analysis of the issue yet produced.England is on a par with Poland despite the NHS spending three times more on health care.Survival rates are based on the number of patients who are alive five years after diagnosis and researchers found that, for women, England was the fifth worst in a league of 22 countries. Scotland came bottom. Cancer experts blamed late diagnosis and long waiting lists.
For those of you who like charts... this one shows it as clear as day. Pay special attention to the country on the top of the list. Frankly, I'm getting sick of the debate centering around a budget bill. I say let's finally strip it out of the budget, and if you want to create a separate bill where we can have full debate on the topic, then let's go. This is a massive social and economic change, that will have far reaching implications into the lives of every citizen of Wisconsin. The debate should reflect that impact.
Let's not rush into making ourselves poorer and sicker. Also via Hit & Run.
