How Far Did You Go As a Kid?

Interesting map on Boing Boing about how the distance kids can roam unescorted has changed over the years.  When I stop and think about, I used to travel quite far.  At least a couple miles.  Not only that, but I was trudging through wooded areas with snakes, poison ivy and God knows what else that could kill me.  Really it's a miracle I'm still alive today... or maybe parents are just nuts today.

Damn, but that sounds familiar. Of course, there was a vast difference between what I "could" roam without my parents calling in the search parties (roughly a mile to a local playground and a local ice cream shop) and what I did routinely roam (somewhere north of 3). Then again, because of that extended roaming, I'm almost never lost.
