Congratulations to Mary Cheney and Heather Poe on the birth of their son, Samuel:

Mary Cheney gave birth in Washington this morning to 8-pound, 6-ounce Samuel David Cheney, the veep's office announced. It's the first child for her and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe.

Cheney and Poe live in Virginia, which has a constitutional amendment barring the marriage of same-sex couples and does not allow gay second parent adoptions.

But hey, all in the name of strengthening the family right?  Not that their love for each other or their new child will be affected one bit.
