I'm trying to remember what Jim Doyle said prior to the election... what was that about a freeze?
Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle's plan to double the fee paid by sellers of homes and other property - a fee increase that would cost sellers of property $142 million over the next two years - survived the first attempt by Republicans to kill it Thursday. The Legislature's Joint Finance Committee also kept intact another important provision in Doyle's budget: allowing most cities, towns, villages and counties to raise their tax levies for 2008 by 4%, or about twice the increase allowed over the past two years....On a Milwaukee-area home selling for $250,000, for example, the new transfer fee would be $1,500.
I love how it's constantly referred to as a "transfer fee". It's a home sales tax. A fee would be $30 or $40 to pay for expenses related to changing ownership records of the title. $1,500 that is levied as a percentage of the house price is a tax. Of course... there is always a reason:
Defending Doyle's proposal, Democratic legislators said the real estate sales fee had not been increased since 1982 and part of the additional $142 million it would raise would go to counties to pay for courts and other critical local services. And, because the fee is paid by home sellers, "the American dream is not going to be affected" by the increase, added Democratic Rep. Mark Pocan of Madison.
How is it that Democrats can all be so consistently ignorant of economics? That's the nice way to put it by the way. So here's a quick lesson for you. If a seller knows he'll have to pay a fee, then he'll simply jack of the price to cover it. And if they don't raise the price to cover the fee, then that's less money that the home seller will have to buy a new house with you jerk offs, which affects their American dream as you so eloquently put it.
Why is it that people who make money are always so demonized by liberals?
