Environmentalists really crack me up. The thing that gets me the most about them is how they have no concept of cause and effect. It's ironic really. Their entire cause is based on the idea that we're currently causing problems, and will continue to do so, and yet they have no concept of the problems their "solutions" will cause.
For instance, I've seen all sorts of shows talking about the wonders of biofuels. My favorites are the ones where the guy goes around in his 1980's Datsun diesel truck, and collects old cooking grease and processes it into bio-diesel. They always make it a point to mention how incredibly cheap it is (usually on the order of $0.50 a gallon). Of course it's so cheap... nobody is using it yet! Also among my favorites are the ethanol pushers who constantly mention the current price of ethanol compared to gasoline as if those are apples to apples comparisons. How much would ethanol cost per gallon if we were demanding as much ethanol as we now do of gasoline? Yeah... that's what I thought.
With that said, this is my new favorite article regarding bio-fuels:
Europe's dash for biofuels could accelerate the destruction of tropical rainforests, the European Commission admitted on Thursday. The EU's executive arm said that the 27-member bloc's decision to increase tenfold its consumption of vehicle fuel made from crops by 2020 to reduce greenhouse gas emissions would increase the pressure on virgin land, especially in Asia....He said: "In a bid to solve one problem, we risk creating another, and making things worse. Rainforest destruction is a major contributory factor in global warming and it would be ludicrous to promote this loss to slake our thirst for fuel.
The irony... it's so sweet... so incredible... I think I want to have sex with that irony. Oh... and it would be good too.
