Not Sheryl Crow's Problem

Charlie Sykes seems to think this is Sheryl Crow's problem:

This Saturday, Sheryl Crow is scheduled to perform at the Bob Costas Benefit for the SSM Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. Ms. Crow is well-known as an abortion activist. She has lent her celebrity status to the promotion of legislation, such as Missouri's Amendment 2, that creates legal protection for human cloning and the destruction of human beings who are embryos. Her appearance at a fundraising event for Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center is an affront to the identity and mission of the medical center, dedicated as it is to the service of life and Christ's healing mission.

How is this a problem for Sheryl Crow?  It would seem to me that this is a problem for the person who invited an abortion activist to a fund raiser for a Catholic hospital.  That's like inviting Rosie O'Donnell to speak at a GOP fund raiser, and then complaining when she insults George Bush.  Her toilet paper idea was stupid, but this is a set-up to take advantage of her increased visibility right now.

Complain to the organizers of the fund raiser, not the person who wanted to raise money to help them.

Update:  I've thought about this even more, and have to say that the Catholic Church has got a lot of balls pulling this.  In fact, they should be ashamed of themselves.  Here we have an entertainer, who disagrees with one particular tenant of Catholic doctrine.  Instead of shunning anything to do with the church, she has put aside her opinions on one matter in order to help a larger good.  She's going to raise money to help a Children's Hospital, because despite a difference of opinion on abortion, we can all agree that helping sick children is worthwhile.  Now a member of the Catholic Church, having forgotten the idea of "love the sinner, hate the sin" has decided to berate someone who they invited for having the gall to accept their invitation.

Now tell me again how this is Sheryl Crow's problem?

Update II:  Charlie has changed the title of his post to "Taking a Stand on Sheryl Crow" from "More Problems for Sheryl Crow".  Of course, he doesn't make mention of this change anywhere, nor does he explain why (*cough*) he made the change.  Not only very unblog like, but pretty cowardly.

That's ok Pete... at least I have a witness to what Charlie's original title was. Who'd have thought that I'd have to screen cap everything he writes which I comment on, just in case he changes it on me later.

Sadly, I couldn't find a Google cache of the original.
