<< Why Are You Asking Me? Could You Open the Curtains For Me? >>
50 Years, And All Your Fault

This is the sort of post that a typical Republican will put up to remind you of "the good ole days" when things were better than they are now.  The implication of course is that in the last 50 years, things have changed for the worst, and that it's someone else's fault.  Sorry... but I'm not letting you get away with it that easily...

Scenario: Johnny and Mark get into a fist fight after school.

1957 - Crowd gathers. Mark wins. Johnny and Mark shake hands and end up best friends. Both their reputations improve. Nobody goes to jail, nobody arrested, nobody expelled.
2007 - Police called, SWAT team arrives, arrests Johnny and Mark. Charge them with assault, both expelled even though Johnny started it.

And thanks to Nancy Reagan's War on Drugs and Republicans like Jim Sensenbrenner, we have the proliferation of SWAT teams that make this very scenario possible.  SWAT teams are called out for minor drug offenses, enforcing search warrants for white collar criminals, and a whole host of other scenarios that they have no business being called out for... all thanks to the "tough on crime" Republican attitude.

Scenario: Johnny takes apart leftover firecrackers from the 4th of July, puts them in a model airplane paint bottle, blows up an ant bed.

1957 - Ants die.
2007 - BATF, Homeland Security, FBI called. Johnny charged with domestic terrorism, FBI investigates parents, siblings removed from home, computers confiscated, Johnny's Dad goes on a terror watch list and is never allowed to fly again.

All thanks to a Republican Congress and George Bush.  These are the exact policies that Republicans wanted... and now you're going to complain about them?  Oh wait... that's right... only terrorists were supposed to be affected.  Shocking to think that a government might take a mile when you give them an inch I know, or that broadly written laws might be interpretted... you know... broadly.  It's practically impossible to buy a classic chemistry set, or make a homemade rocket anymore either.  Thanks Republicans.

Scenario: Johnny falls while running during recess and scrapes his knee. He is found crying by his teacher, Mary. Mary, hugs him to comfort him.

1957 - In a short time Johnny feels better and goes on playing.
2007 - Mary is accused of being a sexual predator and loses her job. She faces 15 years in State Prison, unless of course she is too hot to do jail time. Either way Mary marries Johnny 4 years later.

And in communities like Franklin, she won't be allowed to live within some number of feet of God knows how many places, effectively keeping her out of the city... and that's just the way Republicans want it.

Just look at what you've done will you?
