Did You Remember Your Spanish-American War Refund?

I finished up my taxes last night.  They ended up about the same as always.  I paid a little bit to Uncle Sam, and got more back from Uncle Jim.  But did you remember to get a refund on the federal phone excise tax?  It also applies to people who only use a cell phone:

Many cellphone users appear to be overlooking the telephone excise tax refund in the mistaken belief that this one-time refund only applies to landline customers, the IRS says. Most cellphone users qualify for the federal telephone excise tax refund, as do landline, fax and Internet phone customers. The method of phone signal transmission doesn't affect the refund. The telephone tax refund can add $30 to $60 -- or more -- to a taxpayer's refund.

The federal tax was originally enacted to pay for the Spanish-American War.  I guess we finally paid that one off.  No news yet on when we'll finally own either World Wars.

We paid off the Spanish-American War long ago. Our refunds should have been much larger. Fortunately, the government has a statute of limitations on refunds, so they weren't forced to pay us any more.
