How Old Are You Nick?

This conversation actually took place last week... but I'm just now coming to grips with it and have finally put it past me.  It happened at Starbucks between myself and two of the female baristas there.  Since it was last week... it's not word for word... but it's close enough:

Barista 1:  Hey Nick, we were trying to guess how old you are.
Me:  How old do you think I am?  Just to warn you, nobody gets it right, but that's OK.
Barista 1:  Well I think you're 35, and she (Barista 2) thinks you're 38.
Me:  *blink*
Barista 2:  Why, how old are you?
Me:  *blink*  You think I'm 38?
Barista 2:  Oh shit... I wasn't even close?
Me:  I'm 28
Barista 1:  No way!

I fully realize that there is something about me that makes me seem older than I am.  Whether it's my face or my personality... I don't know what it is, but there must be something.  Nobody ever guesses that I'm in my upper 20's, and everyone always guesses in the 30's.  But usually it's in the area of 32 or 33.  I'm OK with that.  But thirty eight?!

Sigh

It's the maturity, my friend.

On the plus side, you look GREAT for 38.

;)

What's worse...being mistaken for older or for severely underage? I'd rather someone tack on ten years to my age rather than underestimate by four.

But, as I'm sure someone wil point out, that will change. Eventually.

I used to be the same way as you Jenna... but that's before I was old enough to drink. Then I always wanted to be overestimated. But then again, I probably was overestimated back then too, because I almost never got carded.

I'd love to be underestimated by a couple years just once... just to know it could happen.

My wee wifey and I both tend to have people guess us as younger
than we are. A couple of weeks ago a coworker of hers guessed
her to be fully 20 years younger than she really is. Said
coworker, from a culture where families are started far earlier
than we did, still thought she was joking about having a 28
year old son.
