What White Organizations?

To be honest, I kind of agree with Eugene that this is getting way more attention than it deserves.  I think that a lot of people are making a big deal out of this just "to be fair", as if to say, "See, they do it too!"  However, this comment caught me as funny:

The head of the NAACP weighed in on the Great Bus Hate Crime after being asked for comment. Funny, but I don't remember which white organization was asked to comment about the Jude beating or when the black guy from Milwaukee was threatened while fishing.

What "white" organizations would you be referring to Eugene?  Seriously?  Off the top of my head, I could probably name a half dozen organizations that are meant to fight for minority rights, but I honestly can't think of a single one that only represents "white" people, other than say... the KKK... and they definitely don't speak for me.  Hell, if such an organization existed, I'm pretty sure that you'd write an extremely long column in the Sunday paper about how such an organization was racist, and should be decried near and far by everyone.

Update:  Apparently I'm not the only one who thought this, and so Eugene has responded to various emailers (but no bloggers) on his blog:

Seems to me some readers missed the nuance of that sentence.  What I meant was there's no comparable white organization to ask to comment on the actions of individual white people caught doing dumb things in the news.  The NAACP is a civil rights organization with a long history of advocacy for improvements in society through the criminal justice system, government and race relations. It's not the place for the NAACP to be the place the media goes for apologies for anti-social behavior by random black people.  There is NO white organization like that.  That's what I meant.

Missed the nuance eh?  How very Kerry-esque of you.  So really his complaint is that groups like the NAACP have to do more than just lobby for minorities, they also have to answer for them.  It seems that Eugene would prefer that all these organizations got carte blanche to say whatever they like, and not have to worry about any negatives that may also occur.  How convenient.  Talk about having your cake and eating it too.

Also on top of this are Elliot and Phelony.
