Whenever you're trying trying to predict how Eugene Kane will react to events that involve racial tension, there is only one simple rule that you need to remember.  If a white person says something intolerant about a black person, then the white person was wrong and deserves whatever he gets.  If a black person says something intolerant about a white person, then the black person is never serious and you should stop obsessing about these minor things.
