How Are Gay Marriage and Taxi Fares Similar?

Apparently, when everyone is confused about what something means, you're just supposed to vote Yes:

They thought they were voting to lower taxicab fares. But they almost voted for unlimited taxi fare increases instead.

Milwaukee aldermen decided Tuesday to keep a $1 taxi fare increase in place for another four months, after they nearly wiped out all limits on the basic fare by mistake.
...
That touched off nearly a half-hour of debate and a virtually incomprehensible series of votes in which aldermen narrowly rejected a return to the $1.75 basic rate, a one-month extension of the $1 increase and a two-month extension of the boost. At several points, different aldermen asked Hines if they were voting on an option they had already defeated.
...
Before the last vote, Ald. Jim Witkowiak advised his colleagues, "For everyone in this room who is still confused, just vote yes."

As the old saying goes... "People who enjoy eating sausage and obeying the law should not watch either being made."
