A Quick Question About Gubernatorial Politics

Could someone answer this for me please?  The one race that nobody is really talking all that much about is the one for Lt. Governor.  The two major candidates are the Democratic incumbent Barbara Lawton, and the Republican challenger (please hold while I Google to find out who she is) Jean Hundertmark.  Why did I have to Google to find out who she is?  Because she's basically running on her own.

You'll notice that Barbara Lawton has direct campaign ties to Jim Doyle.  Their campaign site is DoyleLawton.com after all, and you'll notice both their names on all the lawn signs in the state..  This was the case even when Jim and Barbara ran as challengers in 2002.  Jean Hundertmark on the other hand is running what seems to be an independent campaign.  If you visit her campaign site, you will see that Green is featured prominently on her home page, but you won't find her name featured prominently on his.

Now then, Wisconsin is different from the federal government, in that the Lt. Governor is a completely different ticket than Governor.  So while we vote for the President and Vice President together, we vote for Governor and Lt. Governor separately.  In theory, Barbara Lawton could win and serve as Lt. to Mark Green.  And while the President picks his running mate, that's not the case for Lt. Governor.

But now that the Republican ticket is set... why don't Mark Green and Jean Hundertmark collaborate more publicly like Doyle and Lawton?  What am I missing here?

I've wondered the same thing, and even asked Jean about it. She said they had some signs made up, but it was too late to get them out. Hornswaggle! Big signs placed in strategic places would have done wonders. Perhaps they just assume that people are going to vote straight ticket?

I can understand that only to certain limits. After all, Hundertmark did have a primary opponent to beat... so its not like they could make signs up before the primary was decided. However... that doesn't explain the complete lack of presence on Mark Green's campaign site, etc. Besides, I'm sure they were making plenty of signs to give out after the primary. So you'd think you'd see a few other there if they really wanted to.

Oh, I agree. I find it really odd they aren't really working as a "team" in public, but seem to be behind the scenes. The whole slate should be showing a united front.
