Voting is open this week at the Wauwatosa School District website for the new Wauwatosa East logo. Not only was the classic Indian head logo deemed inappropriate, but so was the arrowhead logo that replaced it. Now they've unveiled three logos, each of which represent... well nothing. You can see each of the finalist logos, and read more about the story here. They ask that only members of the community, staff, current students and alumni vote, but there aren't actually any controls to ensure this. Apparently that would look too much like voter ID... heaven forbid. It doesn't seem to be a binding vote either, since they have this disclaimer boldly stated:
Keep in mind that Wauwatosa East High School may need to modify the logo which recieves the most votes. We welcome your feedback or comments about the logo adoption process.
Please also note the fact that they misspelled "recieves". I only hope that the person who wrote that sentence doesn't teach English in the school district, or we're in real trouble.
What you will notice about each of the logos is that while they all say "Red Raiders", they don't make any other statement other than, "We were scared to choose any sort of masot that might offend people, so we went with a shield design, and pray that people don't think we're saying you have to be English to go to school here, except we wouldn't dare pray, because of that whole 'separation of church and state' thing."
