<< If True, It Doesn't Mean Squat Problem Solved >>
I Don't Think It Means What You Think It Means

Every now and then I read through some of the JSOnline blogs, and this morning I was reading this post by Mandy Jenkins where she was talking about personalized license plates:

I could get an all-too-truthful one that says NWSPDCR. Or maybe the supercute BLOGIRL (lame!).

BLOGIRL?  Why do I get the distinct impression that she thinks it means something different than what first came to my mind?  I'm sure her boyfriend would get a kick out of it at least.

I am fairly certain that the owner of the license plate KYWOMAN which I saw regularly in Chicago came from Kentucky. Younger members of the household thought I, and not she, was naive.

Then there's this one in my neighborhood:

Now I'm reminded of my high school Pre-Calc teacher Mr. Payne. His vanity plate was MRPAIN. He also had a copy of a newspaper article hanging in his room from the Journal by a columnist who saw his plate, and was trying to figure out what his job was. The speculation that I recall from the article was Dentist, or IRS Agent. Given that he was a high school math teacher, and what his last name was, MRPAIN had a fitting double meaning.

Don't worry Nick, I'm no babe in the woods. I know exactly what else it could be read as - definitely sure to elicit a double take.
