State Representative Frank Lasee is proposing a law that would allow trained teachers to have concealed weapons in their classroom, in order to prevent shootouts like what has occurred in Colorado, Pennsylvania, and earlier in Wisconsin from happening here again:
Frank Lasee (R-Green Bay) announced Wednesday that he plans to introduce legislation early next year that would give teachers and other school personnel the option of carrying concealed weapons. The action was largely prompted by the school shootings in Colorado, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin, where Weston Schools principal was killed last week.Lasee's proposal received a cool response by Milwaukee Public Schools, but the legislator stressed the measure would hinge on staff members undergoing strict training.
Which begs the obvious question. What about me Frank? What happens if some crazed ex-employee comes barging into where I work and goes on a rampage? You know, it's happened plenty of times before in other work sites. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for protecting our kids. But what makes them so special that the rest of us don't deserve to adequately protect ourselves as well?
These school shootings, if nothing else, prove the point that the police cannot prevent all crime, and that tragedies like this could be averted. So if you're in favor of arming teachers, why wouldn't you be in favor of concealed carry in general? The question isn't why just one... but rather why one and not the other?
