Where's The Outrage?!

The DNR has just announced that they will be starting an all out war, including the use of chemical weapons and slash and burn tactics:

State agriculture officials said crews this fall will cut down 1,420 ash trees in 17 counties, including Milwaukee, Waukesha, Ozaukee and Washington counties.

What about the innocent squirrels and birds that will be displaced because of this outrageous attack on their homes in civilian populations?  Will we create refugee camps in Illinois for these casualties of war?

The bark on the trees that will be cut down this fall will be peeled back and inspected for the pest, which is believed to have arrived from China, originally entering the United States near Detroit.

I am deeply offended by their use of pest to describe them.  The proper term is undocumented insect.  And they are certainly not pests... they belong to the Colony of PeaceTM, and deserve to have their culture and way of life left alone.

Currently, two of the best ways to detect the disease are either to cut down ash trees and look for infestations, or stress the trees by girdling them and waiting to see if beetles bore into the vascular system.

Girdling?!  Stressing?!  That sounds like torture to me!  Don't these ash trees deserve Geneva convention protection?  Besides, there is no proof that torturing these trees will force them to say anything.  In fact, many of these trees may give up innocent spiders and ant colonies just to make the torture stop.

On a separate front, the state Department of Natural Resources has girdled a few dozen trees on state properties, most on state campgrounds. Results from those trees will be available this fall, said Darrell Zastrow, the DNR's director of forest sciences.

Its like Abu Ghraib all over again, but now in Wisconsin!  Doyle lied and beetles died!

Wisconsin's strategic plan to fight the emerald ash borer stresses early detection and prevention. In the document, officials do not favor taking a "do-nothing" approach.

That's no excuse.  Any dangerous beetles can surely be deported through existing law enforcement means.  This is just a last minute campaign gimic by Doyle to rally the troops in a time of war.  Talk about Wag the Dog.

The planning document says that pesticides will help fight the disease, but can't be used as an eradication technique.

The use chemical weapons simply cannot be tolerated!  Fight Doyle now!
