When one needs to sit on a conference bridge for hours while doing regular tasks and still remain reachable via one's mobile, there aren't a lot of other alternatives. This comes up a lot on my current contract, but mostly at night when it troubles fewer coworkers, and besides I'm one of the people on the outside who doesn't need to listen. The inside engineer calls me, via his aforementioned mobile when I need to get on the bridge myself.
