Doyle's latest television ad against Green is almost brilliant. It pulls together all the best imagery. I loved the line about how Green "laundered the campaign money" as if he were the Don of some Washington mafia. Granted it's all a pack of blatant lies, but his campaign did a masterful job of taking an unfair and partisan decision by the campaign board which retroactively created a rule that never existed before, and made Green sound like a drug dealer running for Governor.
The real question is, how many undecided voters base their decisions solely on television ads? Because anyone who has even the most basic information about what the board decided, even if it only comes from the Journal, would look at Doyle's ad and know that not only is it a stretch, but it's disgustingly ugly and deceitful. The reason I say undecided voters is because they're all that matter. Staunch Green supporters know the truth behind the Doyle lies, and the Doyle supporters are probably all for bashing Green no matter what. Neither one of those groups are actually effected by the ads.
So would that ad actually make people vote for Doyle given all the information that is around about what the board really decided? Seems like a bit of a gamble to me. But then again, I've always hated mud slinging. Either way... that is some high quality mud that Doyle threw. I'll give him credit for that.
