That there are people who have been elected, who are either so far gone, or so drunk with power that they think this is something they have a right to legislate is beyond me:
Hoops could be shot down in this wealthy community thanks to a proposed ordinance banning basketball goals in front yards. The reason? To some city officials, they don't look too good...."It's just not as pleasing to the eye," Mayor Blackie Holmes said about the goals...."We're not going to put a full-regulation basketball court in our back yard," Mrs. Campbell said. "Our neighbor did that. This is more, kind of, for play." Mr. Holmes had little sympathy. "They're going to have to find somewhere else to play basketball," he said.
That's right... somewhere else to play other than your own damn property. Maybe I'm biased, as about three different homes where I grew up in California had hoops set up on their driveways. I have a lot of great memories of playing pickup games around the neighborhood with my friends.
I think its about time that the good folks of University Park Texas to go around to each of the homes of the council members and pick out things that they don't like. Maybe they have a driveway with too many cracks, or a chipped paint on the shutters. Pick out something you don't like, and go to the council meeting with pictures, and propose your own ordinance.
Let them know that you still think that your home is your castle, and your last sanctuary where you can still do as you please.
