I'm sorry Eugene, could you explain this again, because you just lost me:
Sorry, but for those of you who want to jump to label anyone with questions about last week's terror scare as unpatriotic should understand that the official story is already unraveling. It seems not only did the White House know about the upcoming arrests of suspects in Britain, but it seems the British investigation had the case so closely monitored there was almost no chance the plot was ever going to be able to put into action, according to various sources and bloggers. That sounds a lot less ominous that what we woke up to last week, doesn't it? Yes, it's disheartening to suspect anyone would use the threat of terrorism for political purposes, either here or in England. But it's naive to simply accept anything the government is telling us about terror these days without asking tough questions.
The ultimate irony of course, is that if Kane and his friends at the Journal Sentinel had their way, we wouldn't be watching for terrorism nearly as much as we are, and these bombers would have been able to pull this off. In which case, Eugene would go on his blog and write a scathing piece about how George Bush dropped the ball, and let terrorists get one through on his watch.
What makes the story ominous is they attempted it, despite whether or not they might have gotten away with it.
