<< The Truth Is Out There A Brief Economics Lesson for Gov. Doyle >>
My Vacation Just Got a Bit Scarier

I woke up this morning hearing about this on the radio:

More than 20 suspected terrorists were arrested in England by early Thursday morning, in an operation that involved British intelligence, Scotland Yard and assistance by a number of other law enforcement and intelligence agencies, including those in Pakistan.

ABC News has learned that two "significant arrests" in Pakistan in recent days may have significantly accelerated the pace of the investigation.
...
According to a Department of Homeland Security briefing to the aviation sector, the terrorists  appear to have planned to use multiple persons aboard each flight to assemble peroxide-based liquid or gel high explosives.  The bomb-making materials could easily be concealed in small containers -- water bottles, tooth paste tubes, juice boxes and any of the other numerous person items passengers traditionally take into the passenger compartment of commercial flights.

I'm heading out to California the week before Labor Day.  Last time I went out there, I purposefully few in out of Burbank airport, but this time decided that LAX would probably just fine.  Now I'm wishing I'd done Burbank again.

This is obviously an extremely significant event... but as usual, the tinfoil hat brigade is also on full alert, and Protein Wisdom has the info.  Here are some of the more choice bits:

You have to wonder what exactly are the benefits of hitching yourself to George W. It’s like when you consider making an investment or major purchase. You look at the pros and the cons. We all know what the cons are: your people become a target for terrorists, and you breed your own terrorist cells.
...
So, here’s the plan to make Bush and Blair come back to reality. Make these idiots ride commercial aircraft, ride the subways, and walk the streets like the rest of us. Let them be exposed to the results of their reckless foreign policies. Plus, do that for their families. Then, we’ll see if they want to engage in their cowboy attitudes towards the rest of the world.

Look.  I know I'm not going to convince anyone with what I'm about to say here, but I'm going to say it anyway... after all... this is my world.  This is a war... and in war... the enemy hits back.  If you were to listen to some of the Kosites... they would honestly have you believe that either A) We're losing because the other side is actually fighting back... or B) Had we not fought back ourselves when attacked, that the terrorists would have said "Oh well... this is no fun" and just stopped hitting us.  Obviously these are a bunch of kids who have never been involved in a fight before, or whose only experience fighting was during recess when a teacher would come to break it up.

No... these idiots see this as a larger part of a grand conspiracy, as Eugene Kane correctly points out (scary phrase I know):

The only problem with that, most 9/11 Truth/Myth supporters DON'T believe much the American government tells them.

It's an easy jump for some to suggest this morning's announcements about terrorism were just another attempt to fool Americans into accepting the crack-down on civil liberties the government has endorsed since Sept. 11, 2001.

In fact I'd go one further.  I'd say that many will jump to the conclusion that the timing is too coincidental to the increased noise that people like UW's Barret are making, and that this was purposefully done to silence him further.

In the mean time, it looks like I won't be able to bring saline solution for my contacts in my carry on.  I think I can deal with the inconvenience though.
