Weathermen Should Be Ugly

Today I left work and drove home feeling kind of lethargic.  I hadn't run or biked in a couple days, and was feeling like I really needed to do something.  As I was driving home, I saw some dark clouds, and heard about some storms rolling through the area.  So when I got home, I immediately turned on Channel 4, to see if the weather happened to be on.  Luckily for me, I happened to tune in just as Mike LaPoint was giving an update.  He then proceeded to show several graphics which could have helped me figure out if I could get a bike ride in dry... but instead he stood in front of them making them absolutely useless to me!  How am I supposed to figure out anything if you're standing in front of the graphics you dolt?!

The TV weatherman is perhaps the only job in televised media where we should never see your ugly mug.  I don't care about you.  I only care about the radar on the screen, and where the storms happen to be.  If you're standing in front of the screen, I can't see jack squat!  That's why I think all weathermen should be embarrassingly ugly.  They should be so ugly, that they fear being seen on television, lest they break the television camera.

I ended up turning on my computer and going to Intellicast to look at the radar instead.  I did end up going for my bike ride, and as it turns out I timed it perfectly, because it didn't start to pour until I was home and had gotten out of the shower... no thanks to Mike LaPoint.

Nick, I watch the weather channel when I want to know what is going on. Not only do you not have to see a person, you don't have to listen to a real one either!

Well if I have to look at a weatherman while trying to see the radar, I can get on board with Lyra O'Brien (yum). Is Chris Goodman even a weatherman? I thought he was a reporter. I'm talking about weathermen here Phel. They really serve no purpose on air except to block the useful graphics.

I have a crush on Vince Condella. There I said it.

I think we're missing the point here ladies... I want efficient information transmission. So if you're going to spend all this money on really sweet radar and graphics, then get out of the way so I can actually see them. And don't show me a map with city names and temperatures, and then read them out loud. I can read your map faster than you can say it. Do you realize how much faster the weather segment could be, and still get the same information across if they just didn't have a weatherman?

Who cares about the weather when Vince Condella is on the screen?!

So how long did you actually watch Mike LaPoint's forecast? You do know that he moves back and forth, side to side, so the graphics behind him are CLEARLY seen by his viewers. Sorry you're such a sourpuss:-)

Well Weathernugs... you have to realize that I think that the worst thing to happen to the local news is the weather broadcast. It sucks up a disproportionate amount of time compared to its real importance, and local television stations go absolutely insane when it snows or thunderstorms. It's wrong, and it needs to stop. Add to that the fact that weathermen are rarely more accurate than my ability to flip a coin... and you can see I have a few issues with the weather broadcast in general.

With all that said, I only watched Mike LaPoint the one time. I can say that the time I referred to in this post, he didn't move from side to side so I could clearly see anything. Does he normally do that? Perhaps. But you can better say that than I can, since you're the one coming from a company associated with the Journal Broadcast group. ;)
