Americans Really Are Arrogant

How else can you explain a column like this in the Washington Post?

Lebanon has now become Condi's war.

You can argue whether legal title to the tragic mess in Iraq properly belongs to Rummy or Cheney or to the Decider himself, but as far as Lebanon is concerned, it's Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice who has stepped front and center to handle the crisis and show the world who's boss.

The United States hasn't dropped on bomb, or fired a single shot in Lebanon, yet this is "Condi's War"?  Last time I checked, this was war between three parties... Israel, Lebanon, and Hezbollah.  While some may argue that the United States is in a position to broker a deal... ultimately that deal has to be agreed to by those three parties, and we can't force them to take it.

Some claim that Condi could demand Israel to stop this war, but those people simply don't understand how Democracy works.  Nobody in the United States votes for the representatives in Israel, so why should they listen to us.  They only have to listen to their own people, as well they should.

It gets even more funny when you realize that the same people calling this Condi's War are the same ones who want us to sit down in multinational talks with Korea, and work within in United Nations frameworks.  But somehow Condi can just saunter on in there and tell them what to do, and if she doesn't, then all the blood is on her hands.

Some day, someone is going to have to explain the logic to me.
