Through super secret Cuban sources, I have a transcript of a conversation that just took place in a Havana Hospital after Castro's surgery:
Mortician: Bring out yer dead....Raul: Here's one. Mortician: That'll be ninepence. Fidel: I'm not dead. Mortician: What? Raul: Nothing. There's your ninepence. Fidel: I'm not dead. Mortician: 'Ere, he says he's not dead. Raul: Yes he is. Fidel: I'm not. Mortician: He isn't. Raul: Well, he will be soon, he's very ill. Fidel: I'm getting better. Raul: No you're not, you'll be stone dead in a moment. Mortician: Well, I can't take him like that. It's against regulations. Fidel: I don't want to go on the cart. Raul: Oh, don't be such a baby. Mortician: I can't take him. Fidel: I feel fine. Raul: Oh, do me a favor. Mortician: I can't. Raul: Well, can you hang around for a couple of minutes? He won't be long. Mortician: I promised I'd be at the Robinsons'. They've lost nine today. Raul: Well, when's your next round? Mortician: Thursday. Fidel: I think I'll go for a walk. Raul: You're not fooling anyone, you know. Isn't there anything you could do?
On a slightly more serious note... has anyone watched the news reports on national television regarding this story? I get the distinct impression when I see some of the commentators talk about it, that they feel bad for Fidel, and are disappointed that his reign may be coming to an end. Am I the only one who sees this?
