The Law of Additive Annoyances

Everyone has little annoying things that they do which you probably could do without.  But we handle them because, we know we have them too.  But sometimes, there is a person who has so many, that suddenly everything they do drives you nuts.  Even just small things that they do, which normally wouldn't really bother you, start driving you insane!  I call this the Law of Additive Annoyances.  And God help you if the person who sits in the cube next to you fits into the category.

I know your pain. The woman who sits in the cube next to me at work does fit into Additive Annoyances category. Any thoughts how I can keep from snapping?

I turn up my MP3 Player and try to drown out the noise.

Hey--do any of your coworkers read your blog?

Although I agree with you 100% about little annoying traits of people in close proximity, this might cause some, er, uncomfortable moments.

Actually a couple people know about it, but none regularly read it. And I know that the person to whom I'm referring doesn't know about it, so I feel pretty safe... and soon this post will be below the fold and pretty much lost to the world, except to Google.

However, even if this person does stumble across this post... I doubt that they'd recognize themselves. After all... if you actually knew you were that annoying... wouldn't you stop yourself?

Not necessarily.

A coworker of mine chews (ewwww). He spits it into an old soda bottle and it makes the most annoying noise I've ever heard in my entire life.

I've said something.

The other two staffers have said something.

Even the Senator said something.

Has he stopped?

Actually, I think he now chews more often than ever.

Ick.
