I'm starting to wonder whether July 4th is really America's birthday. I finally had this minor revelation as I saw more and more people saying "Happy Birthday" in 4th of July posts recently. Just go with me on this for a second... and I'm sure some of you might start to notice a pattern developing with other recent posts I've made.
I think July 4th, 1776 isn't the day America was born... rather it's the day that America's mom got knocked up. I know that a lot of guys were at the signing of the Declaration of Independence... but I'll refrain from thinking of it as a gang bang. You can if you want.
What followed was a really painful pregnancy.. what some people call the Revolutionary War. Lots of morning sickness, and constant cramping, along with more bleeding than we care to remember. Not only that, but instead of the typical 9 months... this lasted several years, until 1783.
Finally, after a long and harsh labor, the water broke in Philadelphia... but it still took a few years of labor before the Constitution was ratified by the 9th state (New Hampshire). The Constitution came into full effect on March 4th, 1789. That's really when our country was finally born.
Just a thought.
