Is It Really America's Birthday?

I'm starting to wonder whether July 4th is really America's birthday.  I finally had this minor revelation as I saw more and more people saying "Happy Birthday" in 4th of July posts recently.  Just go with me on this for a second... and I'm sure some of you might start to notice a pattern developing with other recent posts I've made.

I think July 4th, 1776 isn't the day America was born... rather it's the day that America's mom got knocked up.  I know that a lot of guys were at the signing of the Declaration of Independence... but I'll refrain from thinking of it as a gang bang.  You can if you want.

What followed was a really painful pregnancy.. what some people call the Revolutionary War.  Lots of morning sickness, and constant cramping, along with more bleeding than we care to remember.  Not only that, but instead of the typical 9 months... this lasted several years, until 1783.

Finally, after a long and harsh labor, the water broke in Philadelphia... but it still took a few years of labor before the Constitution was ratified by the 9th state (New Hampshire).  The Constitution came into full effect on March 4th, 1789.  That's really when our country was finally born.

Just a thought.

Nice going, Nick. Now I have to find something to get the Dr Pepper off the screen and keyboard.

For cryin' out loud, warn a guy when you're gonna do that. Okay?

Sorry Grumps.

I suppose I could put something like the following at the top of really funny posts... "Warning: This is incredibly funny. Make sure you have no liquids in your mouth before reading. Proceed at your own risk."

But then I'd sound really conceded... and I prefer that people figure that out about me after knowing me for a really long time... not because I said something out right that made them realize it.

Besides... just cause I think something is incredibly funny doesn't mean you will. I don't think anyone laughed at the "premature ejaculation" post yesterday... which in retrospect, was just a really bad idea.

On top of that, it's never funny when you say ahead of time that it's going to be funny. It's all about the element of surprise.

Good stuff man. Very, very good stuff! (And being someone with a history degree, I found it to be a very intriguing thought as well.)
