Did You Know

Gotta love the quality blogging from Eugene Kane:

Seems like a full-time job for the media to look into all the stuff this administration has been doing without the public's knowledge.

Example: Did you know President Bush has been using something called "signing statements" in order to ignore laws passed by Congress?

Amazing, but true. This story chides the rest of the media for knowing about this but failing to do much follow-up reporting.

Did you know that presidents have been using "signing statements" since James Monroe?  Did you know that George H. W. Bush issued 232 signing statements, and Bill Clinton issued 140?  One can argue that George W. Bush's 500 signing statements is too many, but let's not pretend that he's the first to use them, or that Presidents haven't been guarding or trying to expand executive power for years.  It doesn't matter if they were Republican or Democrat.  W isn't the first, and won't be the last.
