Chris at Spotted Horse thinks that today was a bad day for Russ Feingold because Zarqawi is dead:
The death of Abu Musab al-Zarqawi has to be a serious blow to Sir Robins on going war against the BusHitler. Today Russ lost a powerful ally in his war against America. This is Feingolds worst nightmare not only did the BusHitler score a victory it was given to him by the evil civilian killers who make up the US Military.
Look, I'm no fan of Russ Feingold. I think some of his stunts lately have been pure idiocy, and I truly wish the man was not my Senator. I think his tact on The War on Terror are just flat out wrong. He also has no problem jumping on the far left train to criticize Bush when even a drop of blood hits the water, without any forethought or analysis.
However, comments like Chris' are absolutely no better. Do you honestly think that Russ wants our soldiers in Iraq killed, and hopes that Zarqawi would have kept kidnapping and beheading people? I give Russ the benefit of the doubt when I say I think he wants what is best for America. I disagree vehemently with how he proposes to achieve that goal. What I do not do, is doubt his motives, no matter how much I disagree with him.
Update 6/9: Here is Feingold's Press Release regarding yesterday's news:
"I commend our military forces for their great accomplishment. Abu Musab al-Zarqawi was a ruthless terrorist who led an insurgent campaign of brutal suicide bombings, kidnappings and hostage beheadings in Iraq. This is great news for the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people. It is also a testament to the professionalism and capability of the men and women in uniform in the U.S. military and the effectiveness of well-planned and targeted operations.Unfortunately, al-Zarqawi's death will probably not end the insurgency. As long as large numbers of U.S. troops remain indefinitely in Iraq, that country will remain a crucible for the recruitment and development of a wide range of terrorist networks determined to fight so-called American 'occupiers.' It's time to refocus our global fight against terrorism. We must move away from the Iraq-centric policies that are draining our resources and focus on Al Qaeda and its affiliates who are reportedly operating in some 60 to 80 countries around the world."
Does it sound like he's crying over the death of a friend to you? Come on folks... let's get serious about the issues.
