As some of you know, I competed in the Lake Mills Triathlon this morning. And just as a special treat, Tim Deboom and his wife Nicole decided to show up and ruin it for the rest of us. For those who don't know Tim is a two time world champion triathlete, and his wife won Ironman Wisconsin year before last. Mostly I say that tongue in cheek, except they kept announcing over the loud speaker that they were there. It seemed kind of over the top personally. But, it's not like I'm out there competing for fame or fortune.
This particular race is known for it's very cold swim. In fact I own a wetsuit primarily for this race, where the water is often times in the mid 50's on race day. Miraculously, today the water was quite warm, and the swim was nice. As usual, I didn't do as well swimming as I'd hoped, but that's OK, since I made up for it on the bike and run legs. Except for getting cut off by one bike passer near the end of the bike leg (and almost going down), I felt really smooth on the bike. What shocked me was my run leg. I held a strong pace (for me), didn't feel sore or out of it, and just felt great overall. In fact, I knocked 1 minute off my best time for that course. The problem is that I could have probably pushed the run even harder, and I feel like I could have knocked another minute off. I just wasn't used to not being bonked on the run and didn't know how to handle it. So I'm both happy I improved my time, and pissed at myself that I didn't improve it as much as I probably could have.
Here are the details on my individual time, and here are results for the whole group. Pictures when they become available.
