I just had a crazy idea. I'm not a marathon runner. Not only do I not have the stamina right now to run a full marathon, I don't think I have the patience to only run that distance... which is one of the reasons I love triathlons... the variety. But, I do enjoy shorter running distances.
With that in mind, I'm thinking of putting together a Blogger Marathon Relay Team. For those of you who don't know, there is an extremely well organized marathon in Milwaukee every year... the Lakefront Marathon. This year it falls on Sunday Oct. 1st. I was part of a corporate team about 3 years ago, and it was a lot of fun. It starts at Grafton High School, and finishes at Veteran's Park and is reasonably flat. You can view some course maps here. And what's the best part of the Lakefront Marathon? Why it's the after party, with food and beer!
The relay consists of four legs. The first leg is 7 mi, the second is 3.5, the third is 8 miles and the last is 7.5. That means that there is a spot on the team for a casual runner who can't do a long distance! The registration fee is $100 for the entire team before July 1st, and $120 after that (which I'm figuring we can split evenly among us). They have bus transportation from the lakefront, so you can park at the finish, and then a bus will take you to your relay point. You also get a nice long sleeve shirt to commemorate the event.
Are you seriously interested? That same day is a duathlon in Green Bay... so if I don't get enough interest in the marathon relay, I'm scrapping it so I can do the duathlon. If you'd like to join me, drop a comment on this post, and let me know which leg you'd be willing to do.
