I mentioned earlier this week that I'll be doing my first triathlon of the year at Lake Mills on June 4th. In preparation for that, I decided that I really need to get my bike tuned up for the year. I do this at the start of every season, and regardless of whether you race, I suggest you do the same to your bike. Also this year, I decided to buy some new tires. I've rode the ones I have pretty hard for more than two years... and have been lucky in not getting a flat. There is nothing sadder during a race then hauling ass past some guy cursing on the side of the road trying to change a flat.
Unfortunately for me, and my lack of planning, I waited until Monday to take my bike to the shop. I knew this could be an issue, and so the first thing I asked the guy behind counter was "If I drop this off today, will I get it back in time for my race on June 4th". He told me that it would take a while, but that it would definitely be done in time... at the latest by May 31st. I sighed, but said OK, and he started to punch in my information into their computer.
When he gave me my copy of the work order, he mentioned in a very off hand way that all the information about when I would get it back was on the bottom. I thanked him and walked out of the store without looking to close at it. It wasn't til I was in my car that I bothered to really look at it, and saw a date of May 23rd at 5:30 pm. That couldn't be right could it?
Yesterday came and went, and I didn't get a phone call, so I suspected that it was somehow a misprint, and went on with my life. But just now, I got a call that bike was ready... a full week before I was expecting it. I will say, I'm a pretty loyal Wheel and Sprocket customer. I bought my bike from them, get it repaired there, and buy plenty of accessories. So maybe that in combination with my mentioning that I race got me put higher on the queue. Either way, I'd like to give a big thanks to the folks at the Brookfield store. Send some business their way if you're a biker will yah?
