Profit Margin Basics
VodkaPundit explains Gross vs Net Margins... and how some people are deciding that its more important to tax gross instead of net, and the consequences this would have.

The funny thing is, it's not just governments that think this way. I used to work for a company that worked that way as well. The President was only really concerned with top line sales, even if no profit was being made. The result was that the sales force was routinely selling the product at a loss, just so that the the top line sales numbers would be to the President's liking.

While the CEO may have liked those numbers, it turns out that you can't be profitable doing that for very long. If only more business people went into politics instead of lawyers. Imagine how much friendlier our government could be.
