The Umbrella Paradox
I thought I should probably book end my previous post about the Packing Imperative. So you packed your duffel bag full of stuff, but did you use it all? I used most everything I packed. Actually, depending on how you look at it, I used absolutely everything in my bag, though not in the sense that I actually used them. I call it the Umbrella Paradox. If you bring it, you won't need it. If you don't bring it, you will need it. The problem? You don't want to need it, so you need to bring it. So what did I not want to need? I brought a long sleeved bike jersey, a couple plastic bags, spare socks (yeah ok... didn't need the spare socks at all), and different random bike tools. I didn't need a single one of those things... a perfectly executed plan. Everything else in my bag I actually used.
